Your Yoga Uptown
Fridays 7pm-9:30pm
Saturdays & Sundays 9:30am-4:30pm*
+ additional 2hrs/wk

*N.B. On one Saturday, we will start at 7am and finish by noon. Additional homework ranges from 1-3 hours per week. There are no sessions holiday weekends.

Curriculum
History and Philosophy of Yoga
• Relatable study of ancient texts, including Vedas, Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita and more
• Other classic texts, including Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Hatha Yoga Pradipika
• Deep discussion of yoga philosophy as it relates to the real issues in your life
Alignment and Sequencing of Postures
• Study a range of popular and traditional systems of poses
• In-depth study of the Your Yoga approach
• Learn how modern posture practice evolved
Breathing Exercises and Meditation
• Cover all the common practices, plus some very rare ones
• Balance the subtler energies of the body and mind
• Explore the relationship between breath and emotion
Teaching Methodology and Practice
• A systematic set of teaching principles and methods
• Develop your own personal message and learn to teach from the heart.
• Gain experience in small and large group settings
Anatomy and Physiology
• Learn scientific models of the body used in medical science, and also esoteric models like chakras and nadis
• Study innovative anatomical models highly suited to yoga, including myofascial meridians
Communication Skills
• Learn how to clearly express your ideas in words
• Understand the key ways you need to relate to your students
• Benefit from expert voice coaching
Self-Study
• Self-study or “svadhyaya” is a core part of yoga.
