New to Yoga?

If you are brand new to yoga, let us know when you arrive and we will teach you some basics before class begins.

Remember, the most important thing is to maintain the quality of your breath, relax and have fun!

We cater to all shapes and sizes. Every body is welcome.

Yoga is just as important for men, perhaps moreso given the need for new ideals of masculinity for the modern age. Yoga teaches you sensitivity and strength, elegance and power.

You're never too old to start making healthier choices!

You've come to the right place

Yoga studios can be intimidating places. Not ours - we pride ourselves on our welcoming and non-competitive environment. Below are answers to some frequently asked questions from beginners.

We have some specially designed basics classes that are perfect for beginners. And you can also check out our video section so you have a head start when you show up to class. See you soon!

Am I flexible enough to do Yoga?

Believe it or not, the ability to touch your toes does not solve all your problems. But it might help solve your back pain.

Broadly speaking, flexibility is about three things: the chemical condition of your tissues, the physical length of your muscle and other fibers, and the informational state of your nervous system. Yoga trains all three. So, even if you feel like stretching never seems to make you more flexible, and your body “just is” a certain way, you’re very likely to find that by practicing yoga the limitations you thought you were stuck with for life can actually be changed.

I have an injury. Can I do Yoga?

Consult your physician first. As long as you have their blessing, here’s our advice. Principle number one in any physical yoga practice is to listen to your body and trust its wisdom. Over time, by adhering to this principle, you can gradually unwind even very significant damage in your body.

I am overweight. Will I feel out of place?

First up, plenty of overweight people do yoga either to lose weight or just to learn how to enjoy being in the body they have. Second, no one’s looking at you anyway (apart from the teacher who’s there to help you and couldn’t care less what you weigh).

The physical yoga practice is a great way to lose excess weight. And it’s also a great way to learn how to do things with your body you never thought possible, which does wonders for your self-confidence. One teacher we studied with weighed over 300lbs, and could stand on his head with no support from his hands. He could also balance on just his elbows. It was pretty cool.

I’m a dude. Isn’t yoga just for girls?

See for yourself, man. You may think you’re in pretty good shape, but this will kick your butt.

Am I too old for yoga?

As the teacher Bishnu Gosh once said, “You're never too old, it's never too bad, it's never too late, you're never too sick; to start from scratch once again.” No matter what your age, yoga will make your body younger and your spirit wiser.

What should I bring?

We have everything you need here, so you can just show up (but if you want to save $2 bring your own mat). What you get out of this is of course dependent on the attitude with which you apply yourself. So, if you’re going to bring anything, a good attitude is it!

What should I wear?

Wear clothes you feel comfortable in. You want to move and breathe with freedom. Any generic athletic gear or light cotton clothing is likely to do the job just fine.

How should I prepare?

Don’t eat a big meal right before. Stay reasonably well hydrated. Read this page. Do some push-ups. Just kidding about the last part.

What should I do when I arrive?

Show up at least 10-15 minutes before the scheduled start time of your class. Tell the person at the front desk that you’re new to the studio and whether it’s your first ever yoga class. If you have any injuries or medical conditions, please let us know too. We’ll take care of you from there.
